The standard at Darwen Tennis Club is mixed, so there's no need to feel daunted if you're new to the game or you haven't played for a while. We offer coaching to juniors and adults and have club nights on Wednesdays so even if you've never played before you can join the club and start playing.
More experienced players will find plenty of challenges too. We have mens, ladies, mixed and junior teams entered in the East Lancashire Tennis League. We also have occasional social tournaments so there is plenty of opportunity for competitive play.
The friendly attitude of the club cannot be emphasised too strongly, as our members are well aware that joining a new club can be a daunting prospect. We are not as big as some Lancashire clubs; we are certainly not elite, but we do enjoy our social tennis as well as giving those with ability the chance to progress.
We hope that 2009 was a memorable year, for all the right reasons, for our Secretary, Marjorie Bibby. After the Junior Prize Presentation in October she was given a surprise 80th birthday party and present. There was a cake for her birthday and also another cake to thank her for her for 40 years service to the tennis club as Secretary. An unbeleivable acheivement! In December she was invited to the Annual awards of the Blackburn and District Sports Association where she received a special recognition award for her services to tennis. Well done Marjorie.
